Located just off the 101 in Salinas, California, Northridge Mall was already a major shopping hub for the central coast when Starwood Retail Partners (SRP) purchased the property in 2013. Before SRP’s acquisition, the mall was dated and like many older properties, had its fair share of design flaws. But what it lacked in aesthetics, it made up for with in-demand retailers and anchor stores, including a popular JCPenney (JCP).
In the growing trade area of Salinas, SRP determined that mall-wide enhancements would help Northridge to meet the evolving needs of the community. A brand new, state-of-the-art JCP prototype store served as the catalyst for transformation and improvement throughout the entire property.
“We set out to elevate the aesthetics of the Northridge property by renovating outdated elements and investing in new spaces for key retailers like JCP. By reworking the shopping environment, Northridge Mall is now a place where people enjoy spending time, whether they’re shopping, dining or attending mall events,” said Naumann Idrees, Vice President of Leasing for SRP. “We’re following that same course when it comes to adding new retailers and refreshing event programming. ”
On the heels of the JCP redevelopment, a wealth of additional changes have been implemented for the benefit of both shoppers and leasing partners. The mall’s previously garish orange entryway has been replaced with a cleaner, more inviting façade, and its ever-expanding roster of hot retailers includes newly added stores such as DSW, H&M, PINK, Victoria’s Secret, and more. There are plans to add a dynamic, 50,000 square foot food dining and entertainment component to the space, and Ulta and Carter’s stores are set to open in 2016. Northridge is also the only mall in Monterey County to offer free Wi-Fi throughout — a modern touch that reinforces its commitment to being the go-to retail destination for the greater Salinas area.
