The next phase of MacArthur Center is under way, as Norfolk, Va., Mayor Kenny Alexander announced plans in his 2018 State of the City address. Starwood Retail Partners has submitted plans to develop a mixed-use project on a vacant parcel adjacent to the project that would create a vibrant mixed-use micro-neighborhood in the heart of the city.
Plans call for the new component, which will link to the mall, to include a better-tier limited service hotel and a residential component with approximately 175 multifamily units, shops and restaurants surrounding a carefully landscaped and curated public square with public art. The square will be the home to community events, public activities and will become a gathering place for residents, millions of tourists and more. A proposal for the development has been submitted to the city.
"We're already located in a vibrant and growing downtown," noted Jeff Zeigler, COO. "This new component will add much-needed residential space, and a real gathering place for the community and its millions of visitors. With its direct link to the mall, this expansion is a win for everyone."
