The youngest visitors to two Starwood Retail’s properties now have more to do than wait as their parents shop or dine. Magic City Gymnastics at Rimrock Mall in Billings, MT, and Plano Children’s Theater at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano, TX, are hosting children learning fitness and cultural skills, respectively. Meanwhile, their parents can take advantage of the retail, dining and other amenities at the projects.
Both the gymnastics studio and the theater came to their properties in search of more convenient locations after vacating homes elsewhere. Locally owned Magic City has taken 14K square feet, allowing owner Darcey Frewin to “focus on equipment and coaching,” she says. The studio opened in June. Plano Children’s Theater also was looking for a new location, and The Shops at Willow Bend could offer sufficient space for mainstage theaters, black box theaters, dance studios and rehearsal and practice studios as well as space for building sets and creating costumes. It debuted in November 2017.
“As we redevelop our malls and lifestyle centers into urban cores, we must serve our youngest visitors,” said Jeff Zeigler, Starwood Retail COO. “These unique facilities feed the health of the body and the soul, and will create memories for the children and parents using them. It’s just another way we’re shifting our properties from places to buy, to places to do and be.”
